Step #1 - LISTEN to the Scriptures (you can READ along, too, if you click on Scriptures Doc below or with your own Bible. I suggest listening & pausing to take notes in your journal, or even in the Scriptures Doc. Bingo! :)

Step #2 - LISTEN to Commentary

COMMENTARY - GENESIS 37-39 -
00:00 / 00:00

Step #3 - Stop & PRAY, asking God to speak to you and give you the power of the Holy Spirit to help you write the Scriptures you just listened to / read on your heart, giving you HIS divine revelation & wisdom into the deeper meanings.

Step #4 - REVIEW & study - as time permits - additional support and research we will have here to further help explain today's Scriptures. And if you have anything you think would be helpful, attach it below or contact us and we will review and happily share here.

1. Genesis 38 tells us that Judah, the 4th son of Jacob (see Chart below) and the tribe from which Jesus descends, went down to Adullam and sleeps with his daughter-in-law. Since Jesus comes from the line of Judah, of course I wanted to know the significance of Adullam and loved this nugget. Jesus is also from the line of King David and I love that King David wrote two Psalms in the Cave at Adullam - Psalm 57, 142 - foreshadowing brilliantly that this area would be significant to the Messiah. Adullam means "a hiding place or a refuge."  He wrote these when fleeing from King Saul and are the prayer & cry of an honest heart, one that was feeling rejected and desperate when fearing for his life. Read them to get the deeper significance of this place. It is here that Judah sinned with Tamar, but it is also here that Jesus has a footprint and is not only David's true refuge & hiding place, but all of ours. Praise be to the Only Name by which we are saved!!!

2. It is significant that the Joseph story is started in Genesis 37 and interrupted by a story about Judah & Tamar, who are in the line of Jesus. Israel is not even a nation yet, and, yet, this foreshadows that it will be split and Judah will represent the Southern tribes of Judah and Joseph the Northern tribes of Israel, one being in the lineage of Jesus, and one foreshadowing his story and character. Just fascinating to see these three chapters together today, as Judah saves Joseph's life and we will see soon in Genesis that Joseph then saves Judah's life. Will continue to add details to this Chart as we go along.

3. Andrew Lloyd Weber did a brilliant, beautiful & Biblically accurate portrayal of Joseph & his story in his Broadway production - Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which is one of my all time favs! If you haven't seen it, you must. Here are a few songs from it that I love, just for your viewing pleasure. :)

4. This is a sermon from John Lennox - one of my most fav theologians who is a brilliant mathematician, scientist and brilliant Christian man from Oxford & Cambridge Universities - who gives us a brilliant picture of the absolute brilliance and importance of the story of Joseph, which he states takes up over 1/3 of the book of Genesis, when the Creation story is told in less than 2 chapters. He states it is a story of epic proportions & significance. Fascinating.

Step #5 - DISCUSS the Scriptures with the World - by telling us what you love & agree with, what you disagree with, any questions you have that we would be happy to answer, how it is changing your life, personal testimony, etc.
